This summer, we are teaming up with the Queer Summer Film Program, which runs from July 9 to 20 and aims to celebrate and explore perspectives of queer love, sexuality and gender diversity. Organized together with various film festivals and queer organizations, the program consists of a balanced program of queer films: unforgettable classics as well as new gems. Una Mujer Fantástica will be introduced by Natsumi Hernandez, an activist who is part of Papaya Kuir, a collective that stands up for the rights of queer and trans migrants and refugees in The Netherlands.
Transwoman Marina and her twenty-year-older boyfriend Orlando are in love, happy and busy building a future together. But when he suddenly dies, life as Marina knew it is suddenly over.
She is not given time to grieve. Both the doctors and his family are suspicious about her exact role in his death. While an investigation is started, his family – who never accepted the relationship – completely shuts her out.
She is not welcome at the funeral and is thrown out of his apartment. Marina, however, does not let herself be sidelined and fights for her right to be herself.
