The buried memories of the Spanish Civil War become unearthed as a woman searches for the remains of her grandfather’s father and discovers the story of an idealistic young teacher from Tarragona.

The Teacher Who Promised the Sea is a powerful historical drama based on the true story of Antoni Benaiges (1903-1936) and the novel El maestro que prometió el mar by Francesc Escribano, who also acted as producer for the film. Together with director Patricia Font, he brings a compelling film about the pain that is still palpable in Spanish society, but also a tribute to a man who believed in the future of his students and a promise that, despite everything, lives on.
