The young Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan, who received acclaim at the Cannes film festival for his film Mommy a few years ago, returns with an extraordinary film: Matthias and Maxime. A film about leaving behind your childhood and evolving friendships.

In Matthias and Maxime, two childhood friends discover they have feelings for each other when they kiss each other on the set of a short film. This brings about a lot of emotions and upsets the two friends to no end. A dramatic rift starts to appear between them. To carry on, they will have to decide what they want from each other and for themselves in life.

As far as we are concerned, this is one of Dolan’s better films! Anne Doval returns in her familiar role as a mother. And how we love that French-Canadian language…
