Un Fils is a riveting family drama, the impressive debut by Tunisian director Mehdi Barsaoui.

Tunisia, summer of 2011. Fares and Meriem are enjoying life in the company of their 11 year-old son Aziz. During a stay in the country’s south, something occurs that changes their lives forever. What follows is a race against time, where Fares and Meriem are confronted with conflicting emotions and difficult decisions. In a series of ingenious twists, the story unfolds a unique look on modern life Tunisia.

Un Fils premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, where it was selected for the Orrizonti competition. Sami Bouajila won the award for best actor for the role of Fares. At last year’s Rotterdam film festival (IFFR), the film was embraced by the public.
