Quo Vadis, Aida? is a Bosnian feature film directed by Jasmila Žbanić (Golden Bear-winner Grbavica), depicting a fictionalized take on the genocide in Srebrenica. The film stars Raymond Thiry (Penoza) and Johan Heldenbergh (The Broken Circle Breakdown) as members of the Dutchbat battalion.
Aida (Jasna Đuričić) works at the Dutch base as an interpreter employed by the United Nations. The film depicts the hours leading up to the disastrous evacuation of the refugees. Up until that point, Aida is certain that the UN will provide their protection, but when the situation escalates, she is forced to try her hardest to save her husband and sons. Eventually, over 8,000 Bosnian would perish during the disaster.
Quo Vadis, Aida? was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and selected for official competition at the Venice and Toronto film festivals. It won multiple prestigious awards, among which were the Audience Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Grand Jury Award at Movies That Matter.
