Hors normes is the new feel-good film by the director duo Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache (Intouchables). The film tells the story of two good friends who’ve devoted themselves to autistic children who struggle to find their place in society. Superb acting from Vincent Cassel and Reda Kateb.
For over 20 years, Bruno (Cassel) has been running a shelter for autistic children who cannot go anywhere else. When parents and care institutions don’t know what to do, Bruno gives them a home. Within his organization, his good friend Malek (Kateb) trains young people from difficult neighborhoods to guide these children. During this process, humorous and confronting situations alternate and special friendships are born. Cassel and Kateb are convincing in their roles, but it’s the supporting cast of disarming youngsters who give the film a special and above all personal feeling.
Four years ago Directors Toledano and Nakache (known for their successful films Intouchables, Samba and C’est la vie) made a TV documentary about the two friends Stephane Benhamou and Daoud Tatou. They noticed that their story was too special for the small screen. The result is Hors Normes, a genuine film with an inspiring message. For us, it’s the most personal and best film that the directors have made so far.
