In the visually overwhelming Beanpole, director Kantemir Balagov shows the war traumas of two women who fought in the Red Army.
Leningrad is left completely destroyed after the Second World War. While everything is in ruins, a stone-cold winter is waiting. We follow two women who try to survive in these miserable circumstances. Iya (Viktoria Miroshnichenko) works as a nurse in a war veteran hospital, where she takes care of the son of her friend Masha (Vasilisa Perelygina). When Masha returns from the war, they have to face their traumas together.
The talented 27-year-old Russian director Kantemir Balagov (Tesnota) is back with his second feature Beanpole. A story about two women who fought for the Red Army during the Second World War. Their stories were subsequently erased from history.
